Because the pulmonary capillary is located in the thorax, measurements of pulmonary capillary wedge pressure (PCWP) are influenced by changes in intrathoracic pressure produced by positive-pressure ventilation. Interpretation of PCWP should be made at end-expiration, when airway pressures and atmospheric pressures equilibrate.
