Mechanical Ventilation of White Rats

Abstract

When called upon by an experimental laboratory to mechanically ventilate white rats weighing about 240 g, we successfully employed an electrically powered, time-cycled controller ventilator (Narco V5KG) to deliver tidal volumes of about 1.8 ml at rates of 70/min, with I:E of 1:3. Humidity was not employed but could be added if required.
