Abstract
Understanding how and in what quantities air pollutants affect the human lung is necessary in order to set accurate standards and to convince government and the general public to adhere to these standards. Researchers in the Department of Physiology at McGill University have been working with human subjects to ascertain the effects of exposure to ozone and to a combination of ozone and sulphur dioxide. Their results indicate that these gases have a marked influence on pulmonary function even in the short term.
