Spontaneous and mechanically delivered tidal volumes can be measured with a newly developed, simple, and inexpensive manifold system. This manifold allows continuous monitoring of tidal volume when patients are ventilated with controlled and assisted techniques, IMV, continuous flow IMV, PEEP, and CPAP. Isolating the patient from inline spirometry reduces the potential for crosscontamination.
