Abstract
The general applicability of adaptive measurement techniques to human skill and capability assessment is demonstrated in terms of the adaptive assessment of a representative cognitive (judgmental) skill. Adaptive assessment techniques are defined, and an adaptive time-estimation assessment system that automatically adjusts task difficulty on the basis of operator performance is described. Data are presented to demonstrate the sensitivity and economy of adaptive assessment systems. The advantages of adaptive assessment systems are detailed and guidelines for the development of such systems are suggested.
