This study investigates the utilization of the 17-hydroxycorticosteroid (17-OHCS) level in the parotid fluid as a measure of mental or emotional stress. Twelve graduate students were subjected to three levels of mental stress, and the results of the chemical analysis of the parotid fluid indicate that there is a definite relationship between mental or emotional stress and the 17-OHCS level.
