Abstract
This study concerns the design of the police patrol vehicle as used by the Detroit Police Department. The objective was to identify areas where the vehicle could be improved so that its desired functions could be performed safely and expeditiously. Most of the recommendations resulting from this study involve the man-machine relationship between the patrolman and his vehicle. Because this was a preliminary study and only covered a short time span, a number of recommendations identify areas requiring further research.
