Models of several different types are used in the evaluation of policies and procedures related to the personnel system. One model discussed in detail contains an algorithm for accomplishing optimal assignment of men to jobs while satisfying specific restraints. Operational and/or idealized manpower systems may thereby be simulated, facilitating research on assignment of personnel. Results of selected research studies are reviewed.
