Abstract

With the introduction of cellular phones and other wireless radio communications, a fear of interfering with medical devices began to surface in health system environments. Modern hospitals have always been electromagnetic environments with their electric equipment; it is only recently that this environment has become much more complex. This article discusses basic principles a pharmacist should be aware of when navigating through the often delicate field of electromagnetic communications.
