IT is suggested that an underlying purpose of dealing with antenatal care in school health and parenthood education is the encouragement of its use in later life. An assumption of this approach is that teenage girls are not aware of the claimed benefits of antenatal care. This is examined through interview material with a sample of teenage girls. It is shown that the ignorance assumption is not warranted, and that preventive strategies would be advised to operate with a more sophisticated view of teenagers' knowledge.
