A NUTRITION education session was incorporated into the pre-retirement courses given to men and women employees of two firms. The study investi gated the main sources of the participants' know ledge. By using a variety of techniques to stimulate interest, their nutritional knowledge score increased short-term. Topics covered with discussion or visual impact within the lecture were better remembered in the long-term than the topics covered by lecture alone. Nutrition knowledge scores were significant ly higher in the long-term in those who had attended the session than in a control group. The paper highlights the need for informed nutrition education for this age group and this could well be provided within a pre-retirement course.
