FORTY NINE young adults were interviewed about their views on health and smoking. Content analysis of their replies revealed certain differences between men and women and between smokers and non- smokers in their views on health, health mainte nance, illness, causes of illness and the health hazards of smoking. The implications of these findings for the development of future anti-smoking programmes are discussed.
