A BIRTHDAY card was sent to all four year-olds within a given sector of a district, reminding them to have a booster immun isation before starting school. A follow-up after six months, showed a statistically significant increase in uptake, although no immediate motivational effect of the card was demonstrated. Health education of parents of young children is an on-going process. Moreover the effective ness of any one method, taken in isolation, may be difficult to de monstrate but, when reinforced by other strategies, may well produce the desired outcome.
