This study deals with the advent of televangelism in the Eastern Mediterranean and the uses viewers make of religious television. It is an audience survey of adult viewers of Middle East Television, a station that operates from south Lebanon and reaches audiences in parts of Syria, Lebanon, Israel, Egypt, Cyprus, and Jordan. In addition to exposure levels and pattern, the study focuses on whether viewing religious television in northern Jordan is a ritualistic or instrumental activity. Moreover, it seeks to weigh the role of religious programs versus secular programs in audience behavior. The uses viewers have of Middle East Television are explained in relation to the station's policy and its programming.
