Abstract
The last four words of Phil 1:27 –τῃ̑ πίστει του̑ εὐαγγείου –have usually been translated as “the faith of the gospel”, with “faith” understood alternatively as referring to the content of belief or to believing itself. But in this instance, the lesser known rendering of πίστις as “stewardship” is to be preferred. Paul is referring to the Philippians’ sharing in the stewardship of the gospel with which he was entrusted.
