Abstract
The problem of Jewish-Christian relations is by no means confined to awkward passages in the New Testament. For two thousand years, the history of Europe in particular has been scarred by inter-religious strife involving not only Judaism and Christianity but also Islam. We cannot alter history, but past injustices and prejudices all too often come back to plague the present. Misplaced zeal, cultural entanglements and power politics continue to contribute to the explosive mixture. In this situation, it is salutary to learn lessons from the past - and to work and pray that they will not be forgotten. The following review reinforces the point.
