Abstract
Environment and behavior research can only "make a difference" if it is utilized and accepted. This article presents a five step pyramidal model of steps toward acceptance and utilization of E&B research. These steps-awareness, interest, exploration, belief and action- help in understanding our progress. The field of E&B research is progressing down the pyramid in application to design, in academic research, and in theory development. E&B research applications in office environments, housing and institutional environments are given, and progress in E&B concept generation and in professional and academic recog- nition is discussed. The article closes with examples of the growing acceptance and utilization of E&B research through institutionalization.
