The present study examined the dimensionality of K. Kumar and M. Beyerlein's Measure of Ingratiatory Behaviors in Organizational Settings (MIBOS) scale, which is composed of four subscales: (a) Other Enhancement, (b) Opinion Conformity, (c) Self-Presentation, and (d) Favor Rendering. Confirmatory factor analysis using LISREL7 on data collected from 203 state government employees failed to confirm the Kumar and Beyerlein solution. Follow-up analyses using exploratory factor analysis highlight the difficulties involved in arriving at an unequivocal solution that adequately distinguishes scale items. Suggestions are offered to improve the psychometric properties of the MIBOS scale.
