Abstract
For a sample of 177 Portuguese students attending a private Catholic college in Sao Paulo, Brazil (74 females and 103 males), the twofold purpose of this study was to provide additional evidence regarding the internal consistency reliability and the construct validity of a Portuguese version of the Dimensions of Self-Concept, Form H. From both exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses, promising support was found for the construct validity for each of the five subscales (Level of Aspiration, Anxiety, Academic Interest and Satisfaction, Leadership and Initiative, and Identification vs. Alienation), the titles of which corresponded to the five hypothesized constructs. Internal consistency estimates of the reliability of all five 16-item subscales varied between .84 and .90.
