The Mantel-Haenszel technique proposed by Holland and Thayer has been increasingly used by researchers and practitioners for studying differential item functioning (DIF). This paper briefly describes the Mantel-Haenszel methodology for performing DIF analysis, and describes a FORTRAN program to do the same. In addition, the procedure is illustrated through an example and interpretation of the results are discussed.
