Abstract
An environment schedule was constructed to measure family social capital. The predictive validity of the schedule was examined in relation to children's cognitive performance after considering associations between family human capital and children's cognitive performance. Data were collected from 445 female and 440 male 11-year-old Australians. The study suggests the general proposition that children's cognitive performance has moderate associations with the joint or complementary contribution of family human and social capital and with the unique contribution of family social capital.
