Abstract
Forms 81 of the Washington University Sentence Completion Test were found to be closely comparable for men and women. Data taken from 92 men and 175 women show the median item validity (correlation of item rating with item-sun rating) is slightly higher for men (.53) than for women (.45). However, the difference is completely accounted for by difference in the variance of the subsamples. These results suggest that the method employed in constructing Forms 81 (viz., taking equal number of items originally devised for women and modifying them for men, and vice versa) was fully justified and is not associated with bias in favor of either gender.
