Race and gender differences in motivation to manage were examined using the Miner Sentence Completion Scale. While there was no significant difference between blacks and whites on the total scale, scores for males reflected a higher motivation to manage than did scores for females. A number of significant interactions and race and gender main effects were evident on various subscales. Implications of the results are discussed.
