Validity of the importance rating scale on Dawson's Patient Self-Disclosure Instrument (PSDI) was addressed by examining predictions about differences in ratings between medical and mental health patients, and correlations between the PSDI and Jourard's SD-25. Results supported the predictions, attesting to the validity of the PSDI.
