Abstract
A sample of 43 adolescent inpatients of a state psychiatric hospital were administered the Psychological Screening Inventory (PSI). In order to assess the convergent validity of the PSI, clinician ratings and subscale scores of the MMPI were correlated with the sub-scale scores of the PSI. Divergent validity was assessed by correlating grade level scores of the WRAT-R and Weschler IQ scores with subscale scores of the PSI. Results were mixed. Support was found for convergence with the MMPI and divergence with the WRAT-R. Convergence with clinician's ratings was found for only one subscale of the PSI. Correlations between IQ scores and PSI subscale scores were unexpectedly significant. Results are discussed and further research to validate the PSI for use with adolescents is suggested.
