Abstract
Scales were developed to assess adolescents' perceptions of their parents' support for learning. The predictive validities of the scales were examined in relation to young adults' occupational aspirations and attainment, after considering associations involving children's ability and adolescents' occupational aspirations. Data were collected from 170 female and 140 male Australians, during three surveys, as part of a longitudinal investigation. The results indicated that the scales were sensitive enough to gauge the differential impact of family learning environments on young adults' occupational outcomes.
