Abstract
The operation of matrix differencing is introduced as a concise method for the computation of test variance. This procedure is viewed in contrast to complex computational methods utilized with the traditional analysis of variance framework. The operation of matrix differencing allows for straightforward matrix algebra formulation of the proportions of variance explained. Supplemental computer software is described providing an interactive approach to computer-assisted instruction within the framework of standard statistics, and of both educational and psychological measurement curricula.
