Abstract
A recently developed standardized multiple-abilities battery—the Ball Aptitude Battery (BAB)—was administered to 1,009 high school seniors in Illinois and Texas, representing both sexes and three ethnic groups (black, Hispanic, and white). In addition to the collection of the BAB test data, criterion data—total grade point average and grades in 9 academic courses as well as ACT scores— were obtained for 801 students. Results showed that BAB tests adequately predicted academic success in 10 areas of study and ACT scores, even though certain level differences were found in mean scores on the BAB. In addition, the findings of few significant differential validities for sex and ethnic groups suggest that the same battery of ability tests can serve for different ethnic and sex groups for purposes of career planning.
