Abstract
The Mikulecky Behavioral Reading Attitude Measure (MBRAM) was designed to measure secondary and postsecondary respondents' attitudes toward reading based on Krathwohl's model of affective development. In the present study, 411 gifted junior high school students were administered the MBRAM, and their responses were examined via a series of factor analyses. Results indicated that the instrument appears to measure one general dimension of attitude. This dimension accounted for 34. 1% of the total variance. Moreover, the observed factor solution did not validate the hierarchical nature of the items in terms of Krathwohl's five affective stages. Estimates of internal consistency for the scores of the MBRAM were promising for the total instrument as well as for the 15-item scale corresponding to the one-factor solution.
