Abstract
This study assessed the predictive validity and classification accuracy of the Kindergarten Teacher Rating Scale (KTRS). The KTRS was a significant predictor of first grade reading achievement for three school districts. The KTRS also explained a significantly greater proportion of the variance in first grade reading scores than did the reading readiness tests used in the districts studied. Finally the percentages of correct classification for the KTRS were greater than the percentages of correct classification for the reading readiness tests.
