A closed-form algorithm is derived for calculating the coefficients required for trend analysis procedures used in the analysis of variance. The algorithm allows for equal or unequal intervals as well as for equal or unequal sample sizes. A simple FORTRAN program is provided for calculating all trend coefficients given the values of the quantitative independent variable and the cell sample sizes.
