Abstract
The purpose of this paper was to describe a computer program named TEXT-1 that is intended for quantitative content analysis. Any text (even if written in different languages and even if it includes segments in sequences of any length) may be taken as input either on cards or on tape or disc (80 positions per record). The program provides a variety of different measures such as (a) frequencies of words, syllables, or letters in alphabetical order; (b) frequencies of sentences, subordinate clauses (insertions), or quotations; and (c) measures used in information theory—e.g., total information, type token ratio, or redundance.
