Abstract
The usefulness of the Structure of Intellect (SOI) Learning Abilities Test for predicting reading and arithmetic achievement of elementary school pupils as measured by the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS) was investigated using regression analyses. Scores on the two instruments were compared for a sample of one hundred forty-five students. The composite of nine SOI ability scores hypothesized to be related to reading achievement was correlated moderately with the reading achievement measure (R = .59). The set of 17 SOI ability scores hypothesized to be related to arithmetic achievement was correlated substantially with the arithmetic achievement measure (R = .83). With regard to theoretically derived expectations, the SOI Learning Abilities Test generally performed as predicted.
