Abstract
Hermans' and Mehrabian's tests of achievement motivation were correlated with the Achievement via conformance (Ac) and Achievement via independence (Ai) scales of the California Psychological Inventory (N = 66). Results indicated the Mehrabian test to be associated ( r = .29) only with the Ac scale, but the Hermans measure was rather strongly related to both the Ac and Ai scales (r = .40 and .47, respectively). However, alternative scoring protocols for Hermans' test which were developed as part of the study, created marked changes in results associated with external relationships of the measure.
