Cooper recently described tests for use in determining whether or not one "pole" of an attitude scale is characteristic of a population. An alternative test is proposed that requires less restrictive assumptions and appears to offer better control over the Type I error rate for a wide variety of circumstances. Situations in which this test would be expected to be more powerful are also described.
