Abstract
A scoring technique for grading true-false tests is introduced in an attempt to offset some disadvantages in the two standard scoring techniques—percentage right scoring and the right minus wrong scoring. The paired item scoring method suggested encourages educated guessing and provides a percentage score which nearly indicates the level of knowledge of the respondent. In addition, and of some significance in hand scoring, only one-half as many responses need to be checked.
