Abstract
Conventional management information systems attempt to aid deci sion making by providing administrators with all of the potentially rele vant data. The critique of this approach is theoretical (from information theory) and practical (from the characteristics of organizational decision makers). An alternative approach, based on general systems theory con siderations, is presented.
