Abstract
This survey of faculty perceptions of the legitimacy of govern ance uncovered complex patterns that varied with the issue in volved, with the type of institution involved, and across institutions within some types. Perceived legitimacy of governance does not appear to be an all-or-nothing proposition, but one which varies with specific conditions of governance on specific issues at specific institutions.
