Abstract
How schools and colleges reward their faculty members may be quite unrelated to the stated purposes and goals of these institutions. This study of two nearby junior colleges traces some interesting findings flowing from different systems of faculty incentives. The author con cludes that appropriate incentives can assist the professional teacher in establishing priorities among his various tasks. Mr. Wallin was a post doctoral research fellow at the University of Oregon when he wrote this article and is now assistant professor specializing in educational ad ministration at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver.
