Abstract
Gordon Funk's empirical study of two administrative roles—the high school principal and supervisor—provides the basis for this article. Using Funk's data as well as the findings of others, the writers develop a number of hypotheses on the relationship between the organization's work flow and various other organizational factors. Mr. Briner is pro fessor of education at the Claremont Graduate School. Mr. Iannaccone was also professor of education at Claremont when the article was written and now is on the faculty of New York University.
