Abstract
Professors Masters and Pettit trace a number of recent developments pertaining to the formulation of national and state policies in education. Among the more important developments have been the increasing role of the U. S. Office of Education and the recently established Com pact for Education. The authors assert that educational policy making is entering a new era-a period when old issues and old cliches are no longer relevant. Professors Masters and Pettit are members of the politi cal science faculty at The Pennsylvania State University.
