Abstract
As is the case in many countries, public demands for improvement in the educational system have increased in Israel. Much attention has been directed toward the teachers in the schools—the quality of their performance as well as the extent of their interest and involvement in their profession. In this article, based upon data collected during one phase of a larger study, attitudes of teachers, administrators, and others outside the system regarding salary structure, autonomy and responsibility, and criteria for promotion are reported.
