Abstract
This paper is based on the need to replace the global question of early intervention effectiveness with questions concerning which intervention approaches are most suitable for what populations of parents and infants. Toward this end, difficulties that many programs have encountered with low socioeconomic status families are reviewed. Educational, sociocultural, attitudinal, and environmental reasons for these problems are discussed in order to define issues relevant for determining the most appropriate interventions for low socioeconomic status families.
