Abstract
The following paper presents a rationale for the development and use of a sight vocabulary as being conducive to the needs and goals of educational programs for TMR children and adults, and, describes how a program-specific sight vocabulary can be derived for instruction and subsequently applied. Attention is also given to the relationship of a sight vocabulary to a number of language related areas and its versatility in assisting the development and enhancement of various cognitive and perceptual skills within such areas. Examples of instructional techniques which may be used to polish and extend these skills through the facility of sight vocabulary words are presented.
