Abstract
This article is a position paper which calls for more involvement of curriculum specialists from general education in the development of curriculum for the mentally retarded. Special education personnel are knowledgeable of mental retardation and its implementation for teaching retarded children; however, they frequently are not skilled in the process of curriculum building. Utilization of the organizational skills of curriculum specialists from general education should enhance the quality of curriculum planning for the mentally retarded. Reference is also made to needed research in the areas of instructional objectives and the determination of curricular content appropriate to the needs of the mentally retarded.
