Abstract
The developmental periods of special classes for the mentally retarded have emphasized various philosophies. The present philosophy of occupational education makes the program concerned with more than providing an instructional program. Special education now places emphasis upon programs that will appropriately habilitate the mentally retarded for their roles as adult citizens. This article explores some possible ways and means by which the special class teacher can provide a more comprehensive preparatory program.
