Abstract
Aside from its economic and biological worth, water also has a symbolic or sociocultural value, which is a direct and immediate response to people's daily needs for drinking and household water. These are imposed by the hegemonic social class of our time, the bourgeoisie, abetted by science and technology. This article provides a genealogical analysis of the values attributed to water by the bourgeoisie, focusing on the social order that inspires them.
