Abstract
This article is a preliminary assessment of the generalizability of the delinquency suppression effect measures reported by Murray and Cox in Beyond Probation. It begins by briefly describing Murray and Cox's major findings. Attention is then directed to two previous studies for which suppression effect measures of delinquency control have been or can be calculated. The major conclusion drawn is that although institutionalization suppresses delinquency, so too do other forms of intervention.
