Abstract
The developing of criteria for matching specific treatment programs with specific types of offenders is an important issue in correction. In this de tailed clinical study of twenty military offenders participating in the Air Force retraining program, three types of offenders were identified: a neu rotic type, an immature yet socially conforming type, and an antisocial type. These three groups differed consistently in almost all factors assessed, including personality makeup, family background, preservice adjustment, Air Force performance, type of offense, and adjustment to the Retraining Group. Similar groupings have been found by a variety of researchers to be applicable to juvenile offenders. Our findings suggest a continuity between personality patterns exhibited by juvenile delinquents and the patterns in adult offenders. The implications for effective man agement and treatment are discussed.
