Abstract
There is a definite need for financial assistance to inmates dur ing the initial months after release from prison. This type of pro gram can have a greater impact on reducing the rate of recidivism than current rehabilitative practices popular in today's institu tions. It will not be a greater burden on taxpayers; rather, in the long run, this type of assistance will cost less than the expense of maintaining incarceration.
